Trying out a new balanced lug sail on my sailing kayak

Spotting a break in the weather I managed to get out for a paddle sail today to try out my new
balanced lug sail.

I believe this to be a better choice of sail than my trusty old Bermudan style sail that I have used for many years.

It was easy to setup and although not too much wind seems to generate reasonable power off the wind. One of the advantages of the balanced lug is that it is self-vanging.
The boat in the distance is a Cornish Gig, 30 foot long with 6 oarsmen and a coxswain. They move very well through the water.

Somerset Levels Kayaking and Sailing Association

As the Somerset levels seem to be flooding more and more we decided we would form a new sailing club today called the Somerset Levels Kayaking and Sailing Association.

Founding Members: John Holden, Jamie Bachelor and Andy Lyne. Johnny was the first to set off

Time for a break on a convenient field that hadn't flooded

And so we set sail back for our home port:
